Did you know that the menopause is actually just one day in your life?

The term refers to the date at which you have not had a period for a full 12 months. However, the most significant symptoms usually occur in the period of time leading up to the menopause – the perimenopause. After the menopause itself, you will be considered post-menopausal for the rest of your life. Symptoms may still persist as you continue to age, if you don’t take steps to address them.

Often during your midlife, due to the demands of looking after a growing family, probably alongside a career and ageing parents, your health will commonly take a back seat. Niggling problems such as leaking urine, feelings of a prolapse, or painful sex are common at this stage, but will often be considered as things you’ll simply need to put up with.

Laura, however, believes that menopausal symptoms should not be left unaddressed. Leaking urine is not normal and can be rectified with the correct exercises and treatments. You can do something about a prolapse. And sex does not have to be painful. All of these issues can be dealt with proactively to ensure they have minimal impact on your lifestyle and do not override your sense of health and wellbeing in later life. While you should also not have to put up with brain fog, joint aches, hot flashes and other menopause symptoms, treatment and lifestyle changes can help!

We recommend all women at this stage to have a MenopauseMOT which will involve following:

  • A medical history check to discuss your general and hormonal health. Laura will ask you detailed questions about your pelvic floor, bladder and bowel function as well as any issues with sex.
  • An assessment of your weekly exercise routine and guidance to make sure you are on track. Taking into consideration bone, hormonal and cardiac health.
  • An assessment of your core, abdominals as well as an internal assessment to evaluate your internal pelvic health and check your pelvic floor muscles.
  • We will also discuss sleep, stress and nutrition and other relevant lifestyle information.

What to expect from the MenopauseMOT:

You will walk out of your session with exercise advice, a specific pelvic floor muscle training programme designed for you, nutrition guidance including a meal planner for you to fill in and any information on general lifestyle changes you may need. Additionally we can discuss and arrange follow up therapy for any menopause symptoms, such as massage or acupuncture, as well as referral on to specific professionals if necessary.

Laura is always happy to have a chat if you are unsure whether a MenopauseMOT is for you. For any questions, or to book, call 07738224861 or use the contact form HERE.
